  1. Surgical spade

Posted by Jim on 3rd Sep 2011

It takes a good bite in difficult New England soil. I've been using it to loosen and remove the soil around root masses, prior to extracting them. It's very sturdy, as are all Clarington Forge tools, and designed for the long haul.

  2. Best in clay!

Posted by Tim Hatfield on 12th Aug 2011

The Irish Boys Spade has good balance and feels right in my hands. I'm 5'11' and 170 lbs., and I can work with it all day. It is great for slicing through clay soil, and the narrow blade gives control and precision. I have used it for planting trees and bushes, and for trenching. I've been using Clarington Forge tools for 20 years.
