Designed by the famous British gardening author Christopher Lloyd who lived at the East Sussex estate known as Great Dixter, this fork is one handy tool in tightly planted beds.

Great Dixter Tickling Fork

I haven’t used this yet as it’s still winter where I live but I look forward to using it. Fergus Garrett, of Great Dixter, says it’s a must tool for every serious gardener! I’m so excited to have one.

A decade-long fantasy

During my student placement at Great Dixter over a decade ago, I was introduced to not only the intricacies and splendor of complex mixed borders, but also the tickling fork. Whether working in a mixed border or completing some bedding out, the tickling fork proved to be the tool most essential and rewarding for giving a composition the finishing touch— a finishing touch that accounted for following proper soil hygiene and the highest degree of visual aesthetics. Tickling out your footprints as one exits a bed retains optimum soil health by preventing gradual soil compaction…and erases evidence having worked in the bed. I was delighted to finally be in a position to invest a tickling fork. Thank you, Garden Tool Co! Mark Mosinski, Curator / Head Gardener, Dunn Gardens

I haven’t used it yet, so I can’t really rate it yet.

It’s still winter here in Wisconsin, so I haven’t used this fork yet. It seems sturdy and well made, but I’m very hard on tools, and I’ve bent all the others I’ve bought. Will have to wait until at least April before I can put it to the test in the ground.
