Sieste de Wit of DeWit tools has worked with garden writer/author Shawna Coronado and the folks on Facebook in designing this newest addition to the fine DeWit tool line.
The potting scoop was designed with the container gardener in mind...higher sides than a trowel to hold more soil without spilling, a sharp leading edge for planting and digging and a “bag ripper” notch on the side of the blade for opening bags of soil. (and who hasn’t had words with a bag of potting soil that wouldn’t open)
This potting scoop is hand-forged of a strong yet lightweight carbon steel, which you’ll find quite handy if you enjoy vertical gardening and filling all those pockets with soil. It is fitted with an Ash hardwood handle from FSC Certified forests in Europe.
Potting Scoop dimensions-
Length: approx. 14 inches
Blade/Scoop: 6 inches long X 3.5 inches wide
Approx. Weight: 14 oz.
Since 1898, the craftsmen at DeWit in Holland have been hand forging some of the finest tools in the world. Known for their durability, quality and craftsmanship, DeWit tools are old-fashioned tools blended with new technology...Forged For The Future.

Just the right tool for potting/repotting. Nice size and amount of soil delivered into to pot. No stick surface is great. The bonus hook on the side is a surprise. I was wondering what that was there for ... but shortly into potting was wondering how I could have gotten along without it!!

Just used my new potting scoop! As an avid container gardener, this tool was perfect for ripping open those plastic bags of potting soil (see the little nitch on the side) and especially helpful when I needed to add those last scoops of soil and pine fines to finish up a planted container. Loved this - it ranks up in my favorite tool category with my hori-hori knife.

Able to use point to tear open bag and scoop is great size to get a nice amount of soil in pot.

This scoop is much perferred over other scopes in that it delivers a smaller amount and sometimes this is much better for making mixes such as the amounts recommended by various John Innes recipes. Also the little extension is great for leaving scope on side of bags, bales and other such containers
