Excellent for working caked soil or soil entangled with surface roots. Cuts through roots easily, though not without still needing some effort. Far better than a traditional rake. Also useful for completely removing areas of crabgrass as the sharp tines easily gather up the plants and break them. (I did also need a weeder to remove the stubborn crabgrass crowns, but the initial raking reduced my workload 80-90%, easily.)

This does the trick for stubborn patches in any kind of ground cover. The scarring sets the right depth for new seed and the blades slice right through tangles.
