When you need it, it's indispensable.

I'll admit it, this tool doesn't see a ton of use in my rotation, but when you are digging up an old shrub or fighting with wisteria that's been sending out runners since before you were born, it is SO handy and satisfying to pull this tool out and just destroy old, tough, woody roots with relative ease. And it's great to know you aren't sacrificing your good pruners to do it.

My yard was neglected for a good decade or two before I bought my place and there are roots that are absolutely horrible to deal with. Before I had to spend (literally) hours digging around and exposing the roots and then pulling out a handsaw. Now I just pull this bad boy out when I see a root and saw it off. It's tough enough that I don't have to unbury the whole thing to slice it effectively.

Plus, if there's ever a zombie apocalypse, I'll be ready. It's not a tool you'll use daily, or even weekly, but when you do need it, you'll be so glad you have it and it will save you tons of time and sweat! If you have some big landscaping projects that involving digging up and removing old growth, this is a must have tool.

Cuts well, like it so far

Received this root saw and put it to its first use in the past week cutting shallow tree roots of 3/4" diameter and less in a garden bed that was overgrown. Works well, had the added benefit (in my book) of pulling up sections of the roots as well if the motion of my cut was a quick upright jerk. I'll be interested to see how it sharpens when the time comes and also how it fares with rust. Guessing it's high carbon non-stainless steel and I was torn between washing the dirt accumulated in its teeth off vs not wanting to expose it to unnecessary water.

Excellnt for Small Gardens

This root saw is perfect for small, tight gardens that make large removal equipment impractical. As a gardener of certain age, I still found this saw easy to use for the removal of established dead shrubs. As with all Red Pig products, well crafted and nice to hold.
